If you feel like prime ministers resigning after losing a referendum sounds familiar it’s because, of course, it is.
And, in a bit of Brexit deja vu, that’s exactly what happened in Italy last night, when prime minister Matteo Renzi said he would quit after losing a key vote on reforming the country’s constitution.
The 41-year-old followed in David Cameron’s footsteps after saying that he’d step down if the referendum result didn’t return in his favour.
But, yesterday, it didn’t.
More than two thirds of the country turned out last night, with around 60% saying no to changes that included streamlining the Senate and reducing its powers. Full story...
