Dutch authorities seize $100 million yacht allegedly owned by Equatorial Guinea's dictator's son...

Dutch authorities in the Netherlands have seized Ebony Shine, the 76-meter luxurious yacht allegedly owned by Teodorin Obiang, vice-president and son of the president of Equatorial Guinea.

According to a report by Swiss magazine, L'Hebdo, the yacht was seized on December 2nd at the request of Swiss courts.

For sometime now, the Swiss government has been investigating Teodorin Obiang on the back of allegations that he has been laundering money from Equatorial Guinea’s coffers. In November, Swiss authorities seized 11 luxurious cars belonging to the Obiang. At the time, a spokesman for the Malabo government denied that Teodorin Obiang was the owner of those cars and yachts, and explained to L'Hebdo that the cars were owned by Equatorial Guinea. Some of the cars in question included Ferraris, Lamborghinis, Aston Martin and a Bugatti.

According to SuperYachtFan.com, a site that tracks super yachts and their wealthy owners, Ebony Shine was delivered in 2008 by Feadship as Ocean Victory for Russian billionaire Viktor Rashnikov. It was subsequently sold to Teodorin Obiang for an undisclosed sum, even though the site values the yacht at $100 million. Ebony Shine can accommodate 12 guests in 6 cabins and has a crew of 21. She is powered by two Caterpillar engines which give her a top speed of 16.5 knots and a transatlantic range. At delivery she was the largest Feadship in terms of volume. Full story...
