Kids in Chennai, India being coached to speak with American and British accents...

Awesome', 'Gimme five', and 'Cut it out' were not part of the vocabulary of the Raja household a few years ago, but the words have started trickling in. Complete with an American accent, and businessman R Raja is happy with the change.

For the last few months, Raja's eighth grader daughter Sangeetha has been attending spoken English classes with a specific focus on learning an American accent.

Parents are now encouraging their kids to speak with American and British accents to make sure they are a class apart. "I feel that my daughter's future will be better if she has a US accent," says Raja. "It's best she attends the classes now because children learn things faster. It will give her an advantage over her peers," he adds. Apart from the twice-a-week classes, Sangeetha also watches English movies as "homework" to pick up the accent. Full story...

Don't miss:
